In a small workshop nestled in the heart of Lusaka the capital city of Zambia, Rocky, local cobblers with a passion for his craft, is celebrating a significant milestone. The recent addition of an industrial electric sewing machine has transformed the business of Beddah Leather, bringing both efficiency and joy to their daily work.
For years, Rocky and Beddah relied on traditional hand-stitching methods, which, while skilled, were time-consuming and physically demanding. The new electric machine, purchased with support from Ubunthu Enablers a local NGO, has streamlined the production process, allowing them to complete orders faster and with greater precision.
“This machine has been a game-changer despite the loadshedding we are experiencing,” Rocky said with a smile. “It’s not just about speed; it’s about the quality and the ease of use. I’m able to focus more on the intricate details of my work, and that makes me incredibly happy.”
Customers have noticed the difference, praising the improved craftsmanship and quicker turnaround times. The electric machine has also enabled BEDDAH Leather to take on more orders, expanding his clientele beyond the local community.
The upgrade comes as part of a broader initiative by Ubunthu Enablers to support small businesses in Zambia, aimed at fostering local entrepreneurship and innovation thus creating jobs.
For BEDDAH Leather, the future looks bright. “I’m excited about what’s next. This machine has opened up new possibilities, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue doing what I love with even greater enthusiasm.”
Ubunthu Enablers continues to support Beddah leather with good business management practices, record keeping and financial training. Ubunthu also supports in terms of marketing to open new markets that lead to increase of sales.
