We are Happy to share the launch of Mother Benedict Secondary Private School, a planned boarding secondary school in Choma District set to offer high-quality O-Level and A-Level education to learners from Choma and beyond.
The school is owned and managed by the Franciscan Missionary Sisters for Africa (FMSA), with strong support from UMKUKALUABO.
Ubunthu Enablers has supported the project from its inception and will continue to provide technical and programmatic support through complementary initiatives such as economic empowerment, fish farming, and farming as a business.
An independent feasibility study conducted by Ubunthu Enablers (Z) confirmed the project’s viability, assessing key factors including:
• Site suitability and accessibility
• Demand for quality secondary education
• Financial sustainability
• Staffing requirements and long-term operational success
The school will also collaborate with five local schools to support capacity building, access to learning materials, and skills development, empowering pupils to excel academically and practically.
Beyond education, the project integrates community development and climate resilience initiatives, including:
• Climate-smart agriculture
• Aquaculture (fish farming)
• Women and family empowerment programs
• Teacher capacity development
This will make Mother Benedict Secondary School the first institution of its kind in the greater Choma area to combine academic excellence with comprehensive capacity-building programs.
Construction was commenced early 2025 and will continue through 2026. The first staff members are expected on campus in late 2026, with students enrolling in January 2027. The school will be co-educational, staffed by experienced and qualified teachers, and fully compliant with Ministry of Education licensing and regulatory requirements.
The project site is strategically located, with good road access and stable soil conditions, making it ideal for sustainable development.
Representing Ubunthu Enablers at the launch were Chippoh Mweemba -Country Director and Brenda Michelo-Senior Project Officer.
This initiative reflects a shared commitment to quality education, community empowerment, and sustainable development in Southern Zambia.
