Resilience, teamwork, and determination are driving success in Kazungula.
The women-led goat-rearing project supported by Ubunthu Enablers is approaching a major milestone as preparations to sell the goats are now complete.
Late last year, progress was temporarily slowed when a disease outbreak affected a few goats, restricting movement and delaying sales. Acting swiftly and responsibly, the women under expert guidance vaccinated the entire herd to safeguard animal health and meet market requirements.
The process has now been successfully completed, and the goats are officially ready for market.
Beyond income generation, the project has built confidence, leadership, and a strong sense of ownership among the women.2
Despite the delay, their commitment never wavered and have expressed sincere appreciation to Ubunthu Enablers for the consistent technical support and mentorship provided throughout the process.
Additional positive developments for the community include:
• The Kazungula Council Chairperson, Madam Tatila Mboozi, reaffirming plans to drill a borehole for goat beneficiary households in Siandwa area.
• The Government of Japan, through its Embassy, committing to drill boreholes in Kazungula this year significantly addressing water deficits and ensuring access to clean drinking water for all goat project beneficiary groups.
Ubunthu Enablers will continue working closely with the women to facilitate fair market access and successful goat sales. The income generated will enable reinvestment in livestock, improved household wellbeing, and greater economic independence.
